If you are planning a construction project in the City of Yuma that involves any digging, excavating or filling, contact the Building Safety Division in the City of Yuma Department of Community Development to learn the required and recommended steps for performing such work. This includes earthwork and grading.
In addition to issuing permits for grading, the department can also provide you with utility contacts and practical assistance for the project. Before excavating on your property where utilities such as electric, water, telephone and gas lines are buried, state law requires that you notify Arizona Blue Stake at least two working days prior to digging. The utilities then have two working days to locate the utilities for you. This law is designed to protect you from serious injury and the liability that digging could cause.

You are required to apply for a grading permit before earthwork can begin unless such work is specifically covered in your building permit. The cost of such permits vary depending on the nature of the work. Other costs are also associated if the project will be establishing new water or sewer service or adding to existing service, and if the project site exceeds one acre.
For more information, contact the City of Yuma Department of Community Development.
