If you are planning a construction project in the City of Yuma that involves
- installing new electrical service equipment
- relocating or modifying an existing electrical service
- or installing new lighting outlets, circuits, switches, or receptacle outlets, or connecting fixed appliances or other equipment
Contact the Building Safety Division in the City of Yuma Department of Community Development to learn the required and recommended steps for performing electrical work in the City of Yuma.
In addition to issuing permits, providing regulations and inspecting work, the department also will provide you with information on everything from wiring a new building to arranging temporary construction power.
You are required to apply for an electrical permit before any electrical work can begin. Electrical permits are based upon the service amperage, number of outlets and type of installations. The cost of an Electrical permit is the application fee, plus additional costs dependent on the nature of the work. Other costs are also associated if the project will be establishing new service or adding to existing service.
Once electrical work has been installed, you can request an inspection from the City of Yuma Building Safety Division. An inspection is required before the electrical work is covered by other construction, before clearance can be granted for power to be energized by the electric utility provider (Arizona Public Service), and before a Certificate of Occupancy can be issued. When calling for inspections please plan on a 24 hour response time from our field inspectors. All calls for inspections that are received prior to 3 p.m. will be scheduled for inspection the next business day.
For more information about ways the Building Safety Division can assist you, to obtain a permit application or for permit fees, contact the City of Yuma Department of Community Development.
