Fence and Retaining Wall Permits

A building permit is required to construct fences over 6 feet high and retaining walls over 3 feet high within the City of Yuma. Once a complete set of plans for the construction is reviewed and approved in the City of Yuma Department of Community Development, a building permit for your fence or retaining wall will be issued.

The cost of the permit is calculated based on the valuation of the work. Additional permits and fees may be required depending on the nature of the project. If plan review of your project finds that your construction is not in compliance with zoning regulations in your area, or that the work will require additional digging permits before construction can proceed, the City of Yuma Department of Community Development will contact you to inform you of additional requirements.

Fences and retaining walls that are exempt from a building permit must also meet Zoning regulations, such as location, setback, and height.  Fences used as swimming pool barriers must meet Zoning and Building Code regulations.
