If you are planning a construction project in the City of Yuma that involves the addition, replacement, repair or alteration of plumbing systems in and around structures, contact the Building Safety Division in the City of Yuma Department of Community Development to learn the required and recommended steps. This includes work with water service, water lines, gas lines, drain and vent piping, roof drains and leaders, water heaters, and related fixtures and appliances.
In addition to issuing permits, providing regulations and inspecting work, the department also provides you with practical information on everything from installing sewage systems to modifying a room's plumbing fixtures. You are required to apply for a plumbing permit before any work can begin. Plumbing permit fees are based upon the number and types of fixtures, sewers, gas outlets, drains and water service piping that are included in the project.
The cost of a plumbing permit is a base fee plus additional costs depending on the nature of the work. Additional costs may apply if the project involves establishing new water or sewer service or adding to existing service. Once plumbing work has been completed, and prior to the work being covered by construction, you may request an inspection from the Building Safety Division. An inspection is required before a Certificate of Occupancy can be issued. When calling for inspections please plan on a 24-hour response time from our field inspectors. All calls for inspections that are received prior to 3 p.m. will be scheduled for inspection the next business day.
For more information about ways the Building Safety Division can assist you in obtaining a permit application, associated fees or scheduling inspections, contact the City of Yuma Department of Community Development.
