A building permit is required prior to construction of all detached storage sheds over 200 square feet in area built within the City of Yuma. Two sets of building construction plans and site plans showing lot size, property lines, building dimensions and setbacks, parking locations, and the location of all existing and proposed buildings and structures must be approved by the City of Yuma Department of Community Development before a permit will be issued.
If applicable to the project, plans for electrical and plumbing work for any shed must also be reviewed and approved for required permits. All sheds must meet zoning requirements for setback distances and lot coverage. In general, sheds are not allowed within any zoning setback dimension (front, side, or rear yard setbacks). If plan review of your project finds that your construction is not in compliance with the zoning or building code requirements, or that additional information is required before construction can proceed, the City of Yuma Department of Community Development will contact you to inform you of additional requirements.
Building permit fees for sheds are based on the square footage of the shed. Additional permits and fees may be required depending on the nature of the project.
For more information about ways the Building Safety Division can assist you in obtaining a permit application, associated fees or scheduling inspections, contact the City of Yuma Department of Community Development.
