A building permit is required prior to construction of all above ground and in-ground swimming pools, hot tubs and similar structures that contain 2 feet or more of water that are built in City of Yuma. Portable spas that simply plug in may not require a pool and tub permit, though they may require an electrical permit.
Once a complete set of plans for the construction is approved by the Building Safety Division in the City of Yuma Department of Community Development, a pool and hot tub permit will be issued. The cost of the permit is calculated based on the perimeter size of the pool. Additional permits, such as electrical permits, may be required before the construction can begin. If this is the case the department will contact you to inform you of what you will need to do.
For more information about swimming pool and hot tub permits, required pool barriers, associated fees or to schedule inspections, contact the City of Yuma Department of Community Development.
