A Bit About Us - Fire Department

The City of Yuma Fire Department is a great place to work and welcomes anyone to seek employment opportunities with us.

The City of Yuma Fire Department currently operates five fire stations and employs more than one-hundred career professionals who are trained to provide the highest level of fire and rescue assistance. These services are provided free of charge to City of Yuma residents.

The Fire Chief oversees all aspects of the Fire Department whose operations consist of:

  • Administration
  • Community Risk Reduction
  • Emergency Management
  • Emergency Services
  • Professional Services
  • Suppression

The Fire Department is equipped with a hazardous materials vehicle (HAZMAT) and trained personnel who respond to calls related to exposure to hazardous materials.

Fire suppression and emergency medical service employees are certified Emergency Medical Technicians.  Many hold advanced Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic certifications and are required to participate in on-going training and certification.

Fire prevention employees include the City Fire Marshall and fire inspectors. These individuals have a range of responsibilities that include;

  • on-site fire inspections of homes and businesses
  • review of construction and remodeling plans for compliance with fire codes
  • assisting schools with emergency exit plans and procedures
  • investigating fires of known and unknown origins

Emergency Management staff work with local, state and federal agencies to assist residents during emergencies. Emergency Management coordinates emergency planning and preparedness for all of Yuma County.

The Fire Department has a full time fire technician mechanic who maintains fire equipment and assists with any necessary modifications.
