The School Resource Officer (SRO) Program is a collaboration of resources between the City of Yuma Police Department, Yuma Union High School District 70, Yuma Elementary School District One, and Crane Elementary School District 13 in an effort to reduce crime, drug abuse, violence and provide a safe school environment.
The goal of an SRO is to become ingrained in the lives of the youth of the community in order to fulfill our three-fold approach to Community Oriented Policing. The SRO is specifically trained to perform three roles:
- Law enforcement officer
- Law related counselor
- Law related education teacher
The SRO is in a unique position to make a significant impact on today's youth. The SRO helps to generate a positive understanding of the law enforcement community and promotes good citizenship through daily interaction with the students. The SRO is professional, polite, respectful, firm when required and serves as a positive role model for the students.
